Lemonade from Flowers that are too Tall to Smell
10.6.1950
It's very interesting that the first two comic strips that Snoopy is in both has something to do with flowers and enjoying the beauty of flowers. My thing is, in this comic, I wonder what kind of flower that is, because it doesn't look like a sunflower, but it's growing as high as a sunflower. I'm looking up flowers that grow up tall, and 24 flowers pop up. It could be a cone flower, but the leaves are usually a lot bushier. Whether or not Schulz was trying to be accurate in his portrayal of a certain type of flower, or if this is just a generic flower, the message is that things don't always turn out the way that we want them to, or how we like them at first.
Snoopy smells a short flower with a grand look of contentment. A young girl waters the flower, and to Snoopy's utter dismay, he can't smell the flower any more because the flower has grown too tall.
I reminds me of something that happened just yesterday. As Sarah and I were making key lime pie for a gathering of young people, we were following all the steps in the recipe. I was squeezing the key limes for the juice, and Sarah was grating the key limes for the zest, and putting them in a little container. Everything was going well for us, until Sarah switched positions in the table closer to the mixture of the key lime pie, and asked me to pass her the container that had the key lime zest in it. Well, I mishandled the container as I was passing it to her, and the zest dropped onto the dirty table, not able to be used again.
This could have brought us down. But instead we made lemonade out of lemons, so to say. We just grated some more zest, and despite the time that was lost, it all worked out.
Dear Sir, dear Life,
I'm sad for Snoopy, who can't reach the tall flower to smell it any more. How can he make lemonade out of the lemons that life had provided. Somebody could do him the favor of cutting down the flower, and letting Snoopy smell it, at least for the duration of its beautiful life. Perhaps, to keep the flower alive, my friend who watered the flower could bend the flower stalk in a way that it doesn't die, so that he could smell it.
The flowers of life are so beautiful. Their fragrance brings so much meaning to life and can make a sad friend smile. That you may get your needs met is my wish.
Love,
The Marcie in Me

How have you made lemonade out of the lemons that life has give you? How do you use flowers to bless the lives of others?
