Serenity with a Sore Toe
10.17.1950
Our friend, Charlie Brown, sees his friend jumping around on one foot and asked her if she's hopping some hopscotch. She had been enjoying herself before this, but as in a lot of Charles Schulz's early comics, something makes her upset as she hops away saying that she has a sore toe.
I think sometimes in life we traverse its waters accepting the fact that something is bothering you. Some things we can't change, but sometimes it's within our purview to change things without just living with the thing that is bothering you. An example from my life would include the way my glasses are. Currently, one of my lenses is falling out. It doesn't bother me enough, or look terrible enough, for me to have done anything to change it or fix it. I fear that maybe I won't fix it until it is unfixable and I will be forced to get new glasses.
Speaking of glasses, last year I bought a pair of glasses online. They have thick black rims and since I didn't know exactly how they would look when I wore them, it turns out I look a little bit nerdy with them on. Since then, I never returned them. I continued wearing the glasses that I currently use that are falling apart. Not to mention, there was a time that I experimented with contacts. There are many reasons why I don't wear them now, one of them not being because I don't have any. I have plenty. I choose to.
My eyewear could use a bit of updating, I'd say. It might be my sore toe that I'm trying to live with.
Dear Sir, dear Life,
I really take solace from the fact that there is a serenity prayer:
O God, give us the serenity to accept what cannot be changed,
the courage to change what can be changed,
and the wisdom to know the one from the other.
Help me know the difference between what I can and cannot change.
Someone who wants to change,
The Marcie in Me
