Skipping Rope Til I Reach My Millionth Bounce
10.11.2024
"One million, two million, three million...eight million, nine million, ten million!" Oh to jump rope 10 million times in a row! If that were possible, it would be amazing. Definitely an all-time record was made!
I am currently reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. In it, the little English girl who lived in India, had come to be at Misselthwaite Manor, by the moor. Mistress Mary Quite Contrary had always been given everything that she had ever wanted. And acted a rather stubborn little thing. But as she came to reside in the Manor, her eyes began to open and she very much seemed to act like a kid again. The woman that waits on her, Martha, sees the change the young girl is making. And although she does not have a lot of money, Martha's mother buys Mary a skipping rope. She had never beheld a skipping rope before in India, and was so enamored with it, and the very act of kindness that Martha's mother had used.
Accordingly, Martha teaches Mary how to use the skipping rope and it is the most pleasant thing to behold. She tells Mary that she must work her strength up so that she could do 100 or more skips in a row without stopping.
Presently, Mary takes it outside in the gardens of Misselthwaite Manor and in the pleasantness of skipping, she happens upon the titular Secret Garden that this story is about.
This story has been one of wonder and right up my alley as someone who enjoys stories about children and their happenings. This might be one of the reasons I love Peanuts so much, is because of the innocence of these almost never-aging children.
Dear Sir, dear Life,
I will skip through the garden
Til I reach my millionth bounce.
Gladly, I jump
Discovering life as it flies by.
Life, I hope you take me
into your arms as I do so.
Yours Truly,
The Marcie in Me

Have you ever had the child-like experience of skipping rope? What was your record for number of skips? What did this experience teach you and what other similar experiences have you had doing these things?

Stay Tuned...
Do you care for animals pulling a cart...or do you find that beastly and necessary that the one being pulled should be the puller?
