Give Your Girl What She Desires

10.21.1950

My personal head cannon about this particular comic strip panel is that Charlie Brown made sure that Shermy gave Snoopy the flower, because he was Charlie's dog. But I mean, c'mon Shermy, Patty is swooning at the idea of getting a flower from you. She's going to fall at your knees in gratitude. And instead, you give your purchased flower to the dog that is walking beside you. In reality, what is a dog going to do with a flower? And how many times have you seen a flower on top of a dog's head. Well, if you paid attention, Snoopy's very first appearance was a flower-on-top-of-the-head scenario.

I also wonder as I look at these characters, hand in hand, kinda lost in a train of thought that they have blank expressions. And as they leave the flower stand, Patty has a mean scowl on her face, but is still walking hand in hand with Shermy.

I think of all those instances where something I say to my wife, Sarah, doesn't translate well, or is rather hurtful. I never would intentionally hurt her, and I even go out of my way to make her life a great one. I really do appreciate her.

One time I failed to share something that I brought home with Sarah that was delicious. She, of course, deserved better from me. If I had known how important it was that Sarah get this thing, I would have done better and given her the delicious food.

No matter what, though, Sarah does still hold my hand at the end of the day, and I am grateful for that.

Dear Sir, dear Life,

Sir, have you been aware of Charles' needs? Do you give your things to someone else, when you know that Charles deserves it?

Life is aware and will correct the things not given to the people you know, and even to you.

Your giving friend,
