Skill or Luck?

I love games. Board games are fun and so are card games. Patty and Shermy have sat down to play a game of checkers. Party affirms that it is a game of skill. But when Shermy beats her, Patty gets mad and tosses the board away. She then retorts that it is all luck.

I have been on the receiving end of wins and I've been on the bitter receiving end of losses. Losses are never fun if you are as competitive as I am. I was at a game night with Sarah and the Klinglers and another couple. We were playing exploding unicorns and I had thought I understood the game well enough to have a winning hand. But when I laid down the last of my cards, everyone banded together to stop me from winning the game. Normally that should have been a point where I shouldn't have taken the game seriously, but I was too invested in the game, and on the drive home, I bawled my eyes out. It was not a fun look. I try not to take games so seriously, but I just want to win so much. Obviously it has stuck with me to this day. I also don't like games where everyone is actively trying to stop someone from winning, because it just feels like everyone and me are being personally attacked.

Dear Sir, dear Life,

Why is it that sometimes I don't win a game? And if I don't, why do I take it so hard? I love playing games with my beautiful wife, Sir. But certain games stay with me, especially certain losses. Why is it that the losses are what you remember over the wins?

Most of the time, though, games do require a bit of skill, and some of the time, they are all about how lucky you are.

Your lucky and skillful friend,
The Marcie in Me

Has there ever been a game that you have lost that you couldn't get over or was way hard to get over? What happened?
